Rooted in Sustainable Forestry
Tri-State Forest Management was founded on the principle that land can be restored and managed based on the tools that once harmed or altered our landscape: the cow, plow, axe, match, and gun. With over two decades of combined experience and the “plow, axe, and match” at our disposal, owners Jared Cook and Taylor Patterson set out to do just that: provide landowners both public and private, management solutions that help meet their desired outcomes while promoting both the sustainability and productivity of the land for generations to come. As experts in forest management, we provide comprehensive services to ensure every project meets your needs as well as rigorous environmental and production standards.
Meet Our Team
Jared Cook- Owner/Forester
A native to South Alabama, Jared grew up with a passion for all things outdoors and with that a desire to be a caretaker of the land. With this passion in mind, he went on to obtain a B.S. in Forest Management from Auburn University. Jared’s primary focuses within the company are on project scoping, field project management, timber sale administration, forest inventory project development, prescribed burning, and numerous other silvicultural practices. Prior to founding Tri-State Forest Management, he served in both forester and supervisory roles in both the public and private sectors of the forest industry. He is a registered forester, Certified Prescribed Burn Manager, Florida Certified Wildland Firefighter, and Type 1 Wildland Firefighter. With this he possesses over 13 years of fire and forestry experience. His special interests within the business include habitat and groundcover restoration, prescribed fire management, and invasive species control. When he is not working, he enjoys fly fishing the Apalachicola Bay, duck hunting, and training his English Cocker Spaniels.
Like his counterpart, Taylor has spent the majority of his life in the woods as both a hunter and steward to the land. From an early age he began working with his dad Gary learning to operate heavy equipment, construct roadways, and carry-out prescribed fire operations; but more so learning to preserve the land in a practical manner that can be easily achieved with minimally invasive inputs. A native to Central Alabama, he now spends the majority of his time between his family farm in Coosa County, Alabama and Florida. Taylor’s primary focuses within the company are project scoping, providing harvest oversight for landowners, road construction, prescribed fire, food plot development, and all things pertaining to heavy equipment operations. In addition to being part owner of Tri-State Forest Management, he also owns and operates a beach hospitality and guide service in the beautiful area of Seagrove Beach, Florida. His special interests include agroforestry, grassland restoration, and preservation of the Eastern Wild Turkey. When he is not assisting a landowner or running beach chairs, he enjoys working his family farm, flounder gigging, turkey hunting, and most importantly spending time with his two daughters.

Your Questions, Answered
How do I know which service(s) is right for my property?
Every forest is unique. Tri-State Forest Management understands that effective resource management starts with a solid understanding of the landowner’s goals and objectives. With that we usually start with an in-person consultation to discuss what you have currently, your goals for the property, and how we can make this happen. From there, we recommend a tailored management package to your land and timeline.
Do you handle permitting and regulatory compliance?
Yes. Our team stays current with federal, state, and local BMP’s and regulations. We prepare all necessary documentation and coordinate with agencies to keep your project on track and ensure compliance throughout the duration of the project.
What area/region do you cover, and will you travel for projects?
Absolutely. Tri-State Forest Management covers Mississippi, Southern Alabama, the North Florida Panhandle, and Southwest Georgia.
